Health information for the alternative Costa del Sol

Prevention is better than cure!

No-one wants a health problem to spoil their holiday so it is a good idea to take some simple precautions to protect yourself whilst abroad. Take a look at the Boots.com travel information section for lots of good advice on basic health and suncare, including a suncare factor calculator and special sections for kids health and sun protection. Fill in their easy to use holiday essentials selector form to obtain a personalised packing/ shopping list from which you can order any products that you need there and then saving a great deal of time and effort!

Medical Facilities

If all your preventative measures have failed and you do find that you fall ill whilst staying here and require some medical assistance then don't worry as there are plenty of good medical facilities available.

The main hospital serving the region (Hospital Comarcal de la Axarquia) is at Torre del Mar where they have a 24 hour Emergency Department (Urgencias). Each of the larger towns also has a health centre (Centro de Salud) with more limited facilities. In addition, Nerja in particular has a large number of private doctors, physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors etc. who speak good English.
