A guide to playing a round
(of golf!) on the alternative Costa del Sol

Like Gin & Tonic the game of Golf and the Costa del Sol are a marriage made in heaven. Ask almost anyone who plays the game and there is every likelihood that they have hacked their way around at least one of the many courses to be found on the western Costa del Sol.

But the chances are they haven't played the Axarquia courses.

The main reason for that being until recently there wasn't a single course between Malaga and Motril.

However there are now two courses between Malaga and Nerja with more planned and although they may not be as prestigious as some of their west end counterparts the courses in the Axarquia offer a competitive challenge to even the most discerning player.

If you would like to come and stay in the area and play a round or two on our courses then check out the superb selection of rental accommodation we offer on our accommodation page.

Añoreta Golf

The Añoreta Course located at km 258 close to Rincón de la Victoria opened in 1990 and was designed by the European tour professional José Mariá Cañizares. Situated between the mountains and the sea the 5,673 metre par 72 course can be described as Parkland in style.

Mature trees and shrubs line many of the holes, however it is water that is the main feature. Not only are you afforded some splendid views of the Mediterranean particularly from the Par 4 seventh but water of the fresh kind forms a hazard at 11 of the 18 holes on the course. Notably the Par three 17th where the green is surrounded on three sides by water making its mere 168 metres suddenly seem none too few.

Baviera Golf

The second and newest of the regions 18 hole courses
Baviera Golf opened in 2002 and is located at km 277 between Torre del Mar and Caleta de Velez. At 5066 metres the Par 71 course has wide undulating fairways and large, fast greens which along with some cleverly placed water hazards put the course in the moderately difficult bracket.

Amoung the facilities are a Pro Shop, Restaurant, Clubhouse, Changing rooms, Showers, Club Rental, Electric and Manual Trolleys, Buggies, Caddies, Driving Range, Putting & Chipping Green aswell as Golf lessons.

Current green fees are €45 for 18 holes from 16th September to 14th June. With reduced rates during the summer months.

Buggies are €27 and Trolleys €3 per round.
