Virgen del Carmen festivities

The feastday of the patron saint of fishermen (Virgen del Carmen) on 16th July was celebrated along the Axaquian coastline in traditional style.

The weekend also brought the annual Veladilla del Carmen celebrated in Vélez-Málaga. For the first time this was held in the Parque de Andalucia where the usual food and drink stands run by the various Peñas and Cofradias or social clubs and brotherhoods of the town were set up in conjunction with a Medieval Market and 2 big stages where entertainment was provided by a number of dance troupes and musical groups. The event was a great success with all participants enjoying the party atmosphere and pleasant setting.

Fería de Málaga 14th-22nd August

Dating back to 1492, the annual fair held in the centre of Málaga is a commemoration of the arrival of the Catholic Monarchs into the city on 19th August 1487.

The fair is split into two with daytime activites taking place in the city centre and the nightime funfair combined with music, drinking and dancing held at the city fairgound near the newly opened exhibiton centre adjacent to the E15 autovia.

During the feria there is a daily bullfight held at 7pm at the Malagueta Bullring.
